Types of Search engines

In regular parlance, when one speaks of search engines it simply means you would like to try to some search via the internet. T the typical user doesn't identify with the type of research or search developed by the software program. it's a generic quite search. But actually,

There are two kinds  of search engines

  1. Crawler based
  2. Human-powered dictionaries

Both of them have different ways to get the information that the user needs. They are not remotely similar to each other. However, both have the job of getting the information.

Crawler based

If you use Google, or AllThe Web or even AltaaVista then you are using the crawler-based search engine. Imagine a spider crawling all over the wall and creating a web. That is precisely what these search engines do. They crawl across various websites and get keywords attached to get results. They immediately prepare a web index for the user and present them as results. Even if the website is dynamic it can be caught by the crawler. The database will keep getting update and information may remain relevant to the user. The more recent the information the more likely chances of the website being on the top pages.

This system is good when you need very specific information. For example, you will need a pin code to use a courier service effectively. Similarly, the crawlers work with precision. However, if the keyword is not specified then it pops up with irrelevant results.

Human Powered directories

Examples of this are Yahoo, Open Directory and LookSmart. They all function on human editors working out the results. It does not depend on software but actual human intervention to help the user. The Webmaster makes a submission with a short description of the directory. They use it for their websites. Usually, they have their own editors to review.
